2. What is your occupation area?

1. Page SEO Copy

Intro copy (publish as-is):

Five questions, one honest answer. Tell us where you are, what work you do, and what you expect to earn, and this checker will tell you which UK sponsorship routes are realistically open to you — Skilled Worker, the Seasonal Worker scheme, or switching sponsor inside the UK. It will also tell you, plainly, when the route you are hoping for is closed: since 22 July 2025 nobody can be newly sponsored from overseas as a care worker, and no honest tool should pretend otherwise. Your answers stay in your browser; nothing is sent or stored.

Section copy — "What this checker cannot do":

It cannot guarantee a job, a sponsor, or a visa — nobody can. It reads your situation against the published rules (sources linked on the result) and points you at the next real step: the jobs, the salary test, or the licence check. For advice on an individual case, use an IAA-registered immigration adviser.

2. Logic Spec — Questions (exact sequence)

| # | Question | Answers | Routing effect | |---|---|---|---| | 1 | Where are you now? | Outside the UK / In the UK on a work visa / In the UK on another visa (student, graduate, family…) | In-UK work visa → switcher branch. Other-visa → switch-eligibility note in result You cannot switch into Skilled Worker from inside the UK if you are here on a visit visa, a short-term student visa, a Parent of a Child Student visa, a Seasonal Worker visa, a domestic worker in a private household visa, on immigration bail, or with permission granted outside the Immigration Rules — those applicants must apply from outside the UK. | | 2 | What is your occupation area? | Healthcare (NHS clinical) / Care work (care homes, home care) / Hospitality & chef / Tech & software / Engineering / Teaching / Warehouse & logistics / Farm & seasonal work / Driving / Other skilled work | Care work + outside UK → BLOCKED result (see §3). Farm → seasonal branch. | | 3 | (Skilled branches) Is the work at degree level or a recognised skilled trade? | Yes / No / Not sure | No → honest likely-ineligible result with the occupation-coding link; the checker never inflates a role's level. | | 4 | What salary do you expect or have you been offered? (GBP/year) | Number, optional "not sure" | Feeds a soft pointer to Tool 2 ("test the exact figure"); never itself renders a threshold verdict with a typed-in number — thresholds live only in Tool 2's GOV.UK-ingested data. | | 5 | (In-UK branch) Is your current sponsor still licensed and your job continuing? | Yes / No — licence revoked or job ended / Not sure | No → urgency framing in the result: switching guide first, jobs second. |

3. Result States (exact behaviour)

  1. Skilled Worker — realistic: summary of why (occupation + level), next steps in chain order: browse the occupation's facet → test a salary in Tool 2 → verify employers in Tool 1.
  2. BLOCKED — overseas care: shown when Q1 = outside UK and Q2 = care work. Full-screen honest panel: care worker sponsorship from overseas (SOC 6135/6136) closed 22 July 2025; nobody can sell you this route; the routes that remain (NHS healthcare assistant SOC 6131 where the person qualifies as a different occupation, other skilled occupations, in-UK switching if their status changes) each linked. Links: guide 07, HCA facet, scams guide. This result never shows care job listings.
  3. Seasonal Worker route: farm branch result — licensed scheme operators only, how the scheme works, never pay an agent; links: guide 09, farm facet.
  4. In-UK switcher: result leads with the switching sequence (guide 08), the switcher hub listings, and — if Q5 = revoked/ended — the urgency note and revoked-list check.
  5. Likely ineligible on current answers: said plainly, with the reason (skill level / route closure), the occupation-coding tool link on GOV.UK, and the adjacent routes that might fit (seasonal, study routes are out of scope — link GOV.UK, do not advise). Never softened into a false "maybe".

4. Data / Rules Source

The branching reflects GOV.UK published route rules as of build. Branches checked 6 Nov 2026 against GOV.UK: care-worker entry clearance (SOC 6135/6136) is closed — those codes now appear only under extend/update/switch on the Health and Care Worker page, and switchers must have worked legally for their sponsor for at least 3 months; switching permissions per the Skilled Worker switch page (cannot-switch list as in row 1); Seasonal Worker sponsorship is only via licensed scheme operators named in GOV.UK's seasonal-work worker guidance. No salary figures appear in this tool at all (Tool 2 owns figures).

5. Privacy / Edge Behaviour

  • Runs entirely client-side; no answers leave the browser; no analytics events carry answer values.
  • Back/restart supported; result is shareable as the facet/tool links it recommends, not as a stored report.
  • JavaScript off: the page renders the three route summaries (Skilled / Seasonal / Switcher + the care closure notice) as static content — the honesty content must never be JS-gated.

6. Internal Links (by slug)

Outbound: Tools 1–2 · guides 07, 08, 09, 01 · sector facets (per branch) · switcher hub · farm facet · HCA facet. Inbound required from: homepage hero/tools band, foreigners facet, hub intro, guide 01, tools 1–2 result screens.

7. Acceptance Tests

  • [ ] Outside UK + care work → BLOCKED result renders, contains the 22 July 2025 date, and shows zero care listings.
  • [ ] Outside UK + farm → Seasonal result with the licensed-operator wording and no Skilled Worker framing.
  • [ ] In-UK work visa + sponsor revoked → switcher result with urgency framing ordered before listings.
  • [ ] NHS clinical + skilled level → Skilled Worker result whose chain order is facet → Tool 2 → Tool 1.
  • [ ] No salary number is rendered anywhere in any result state.
  • [ ] With JavaScript disabled, the static route summaries + care closure notice are fully readable.
  • [ ] No form submission/network request carries the answers (network log check).
  • [ ] Every branch's rule wording matches the GOV.UK pages recorded in the §4 editor check.
